Janet Carroll

"I'll Be Seeing You" and "I Can't Give You Anything But Love"

Janet Carroll's first love is music, and it always has been. Her music is Janet's greatest passion, and her love is wide-ranging. Standards, the blues, show tunes. But her greatest love of all is jazz.  Janet is a recording artist for Dynasty Records and her next album pays tribute to the "Great Ladies" of jazz.

This might come as a surprise to some of her fans who know Janet primarily from her work as an actress.  She has one of TV's most recognized faces, having played an incredible array of characters.  For ten years, Janet had simultaneous recurring roles on "Murphy Brown" as Doris Dial, on "Married With Children" as boss Gary, on "Melrose Place" as the troublesome Marian Shaw and on "The Bonnie Hunt Show" in the role of the dreaded Diane Fulton.

Janet still finds time for television assignments while pursuing a busy schedule of recording and personal appearances. You've probably seen Janet on "Coach", "L.A. Law", "Touched By An Angel" and many other shows, including the 100th episode of "Third Rock From The Sun".

She is a respected stage actress and won L.A.'s coveted Dramalogue Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Theatre for her interpretation of Klytemnestra in Ezra Pound's "Elektra".  In addition to her dramatic roles, she is know to theatregoers on both coasts and across America for her stellar performances in dozens of stage musicals including "Showboat", "South Pacific", "Annie Get Your Gun", "Funny Girl" and many more.

Playing Tom Cruise's mom in the hit movie "Risky Business" brought her to the attention of Hollywood producers.  She has numerous feature films in a wide variety of roles, with stars that include Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman, Matthew Broderick, Beau Bridges and Billy Crystal.  Her recent film releases are "The Omega Code" with Michael York and the Dreamworks hit movie "Forces of Nature" in which Janet plays opposite Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock.

But jazz is the spark that lights Janet's fire.  Janet can be seen frequently fronting her traditional jazz band, performing at the Victoria and Vancouver Jazz Festivals in British Columbia, and in California at the Monterey, L.A. Classic, Newport Beach and Catalina Island Jazz Festivals.  She headlines jazz club and festival dates throughout the United States and overseas with USO shows.

For the third year running, Janet is serving as the Artistic Director of the Jazz Series at the Simi Valley (California) Cultural Arts Center that continues to feature some of the greatest names and legends in the jazz world today.  Janet is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Singers, the organization founded by the late Henry Mancini.

Janet Carroll's new album for Dynasty Records reflects her deep love for jazz and focuses on the unique role that women have played in its development. Janet herself seems destined to become one of the Great Ladies of Jazz.
